The final day of the 2026 European Reformation Pilgrimage has arrived.

Yet until we fully return to NCBC, it is not over, so we press on with full focus to the end.

The first photo gracing today's opening is the very place where Paul first set foot in the port city of Puteoli during his journey to Rome. More details and the grace we received will be shared below.

Our morning worship was held on the bus as rain fell today.

Today was also Elder Song Yoonseok's birthday.

Sister Yoonkyung, our events coordinator, prepared a special cake — a one-of-a-kind cake with a candle stuck in an egg.

It was likely the first time Elder Yoonseok had ever seen a cake like this.

What a blessing it is to celebrate such a special day together.

Morning worship began with a full-throated singing of "When the Kingdom of the Lord Comes."

We proclaimed together the wonders of God's amazing love and His greatness.

Today's Scripture was Philippians 4:9.

"Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."

To the persecuted church in Philippi, Paul declares: rejoice.

He encourages them that when they put into practice what they have learned, received, heard, and seen, God Himself — the very source of peace — will be present with them.

It is not merely that peace comes, but that the God of peace comes to be with them.

Over the past two weeks, we have seen and heard so much.

But for this learning — for the meaning of the Reformation — to take real shape in our lives, we must now act.

We hope that each pilgrim will not simply carry this grace as head knowledge, but live it out in daily life.

We pray that we will tackle the areas of our lives not yet reformed, and joyfully anticipate God who will gladly receive every act of obedience, even through hardship

With today's Word in hand, we shared the grace we received with members we hadn't yet fellowshipped with deeply.

As the days of the pilgrimage have grown, our hearts have drawn closer together and the grace we've received has grown deeper.

Our first pilgrimage site today was Pompeii — the ancient Roman city that vanished overnight in AD 79 when Mount Vesuvius erupted, located about three hours south of Rome by car.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774586091_9758.jpeg

Pompeii was not merely a thriving commercial city, but one equipped with a remarkably advanced level of technological civilization for its time.

As a port city, Pompeii served as a key hub of Mediterranean trade.

A sophisticated water supply and sewage system ran throughout the city; lead pipes delivered water to wealthier homes and public bathhouses, while ordinary citizens drew water from public fountains.

Streets were fitted with stone crosswalks for pedestrians, white stones embedded in the road to reflect moonlight at night, and restaurants equipped with heated counters to keep food warm.

Looking down at Pompeii's city layout, it almost resembles the shape of a fish — a testament to how remarkably well-planned this city was for being nearly 2,000 years old.

The public bathhouses were a showcase of the era's technological achievement, complete with cold baths, warm baths, hot baths, and even a sauna.

What was especially remarkable was the heating system — hot air circulated beneath the floors to regulate the water temperature.

The walls were also built with a double-layer structure to allow heat to flow through, evenly warming the entire room.

Two thousand years ago, they had already implemented the same principle as today's underfloor heating.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582521_832.jpeg

Yet behind the prosperity and comfort of Pompeii lay a dark shadow.

Brothels were widespread throughout the city, and explicit imagery covered the walls.

Our guide explained that citizens with abundant money and time naturally drifted into lives of pleasure.

Behind the flourishing civilization, moral decay was quietly growing alongside it.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582522_291.jpeg

Pompeii also had an amphitheater capable of holding about 20,000 people.

Built in 80 BC, it is the oldest surviving stone Roman amphitheater, and served as the model for all amphitheaters that followed — including the Colosseum.

It utilized the natural slope of the terrain and the city walls to construct the seating, accommodating 20,000 spectators without any massive separate structure.

It is an astounding feat of engineering that is hard to believe is 2,000 years old.

There is a museum displaying the frozen moment when the eruption stopped everything.

Alongside excavated artifacts, the final moments of that day are preserved as they were.

The forms of people who desperately tried to breathe just a little longer, curled up in their last postures, have been restored in plaster and are on display.

Across 2,000 years of time, the desperation of that day is conveyed with striking immediacy.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582523_1141.jpeg

The tragedy of Pompeii leads us to deeply reflect on how fleeting human life truly is.

James 4:14 says, "What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

On that day, time stopped forever for the people of Pompeii.

This sobering truth reminds us of how urgent and precious it is to share the gospel in this very moment.

It stirs a sense of urgency in those of us living in Silicon Valley today.

In a rapidly changing world, our preoccupation with AI and cutting-edge technology is not so different from the people of Pompeii living amid prosperity and pleasure.

Yet all of Pompeii's sophisticated technology was rendered completely powerless the moment Vesuvius erupted.

No matter how advanced our technology and systems, Pompeii vividly shows us that the moment God intervenes, it can all become nothing but ash and dust.

The technology and innovation of Silicon Valley are certainly the products of wisdom and creativity that God has given humanity.

In fact, we have been given tools through technology to reach even more people with the gospel.

But we must be on guard not to lose God at the center and drift into paths of sin.

The history of Pompeii calls us to trust in God rather than technology and not to lose our center in this rapidly shifting age.

Our next pilgrimage site was Pozzuoli, a port city near Naples, just 30 minutes from Pompeii

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582808_931.jpeg

This city appears in the book of Acts — it is the port city where Paul first set foot on Italian soil during his journey to Rome, recorded in Acts 28:13-14 as Puteoli.

"From there, we made a circuit and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli. There we found brothers and were invited to stay with them for seven days. And so we came to Rome."

Paul arrived here as a prisoner, carried on a ship — yet his footsteps became the very first step of the gospel reaching Rome.

He met brothers here, stayed with them for a week, and then pressed on toward Rome.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582806_6799.jpeg

In a busy port city where countless merchants and travelers came and went, God remembered the footsteps of one prisoner.

Every moment of Paul's journey to Rome, recorded in Acts 28, was in God's hands.

Shipwrecked by the storm called Euroclydon, passing through Malta, Sicily, and Rhegium, and finally reaching this land of Puteoli.

Paul knew that his life on this earth would soon come to an end, yet he set foot on this land in obedience to God's will.

His was just one set of footsteps among countless others, yet God remembered and upheld that footstep of obedience.

It is the same with our footsteps.

Even if the world does not remember, God remembers and uses each step we take in obedience.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582807_801.jpeg

On the outer wall of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie at the port of Pozzuoli, there was a mosaic depicting the moment Paul first set foot on the shores of Puteoli.

Paul stepping off the ship as a prisoner, brothers welcoming him, and a dove soaring above — across 2,000 years, that moment is etched into this wall.

60580f3d3efe17d2960d7e3279c09469_1774582807_1714.jpeg

What greeted us here was a fierce gust of wind.

Hats were blown off, and each step down to the harbor was a struggle against the wind.

But strangely, on the way back to the bus, the south wind blew strongly at our backs, carrying us up the hill effortlessly as if we were being led by the wind itself.

Acts records that a south wind arose, bringing Paul to Puteoli.

After the winter passed, Paul, too, must have been carried to this harbor by this very wind 2,000 years ago.

Not straining against the wind in his own direction, but moving forward in obedience to the direction God was leading — just like Paul, we hope to live lives that walk in the direction God leads us.

The wind was so strong that Sister Hyeryeong's dramatically transformed hairstyle says it all.

On the three-hour journey back to the hotel, Pastor Son trained us one final time — guiding us through the 8-week course of 'Ginosko,' a handbook for the Christian life.

The Christian life begins above all with the restoration of our relationship with God.

Like the parable of the vine and the branches in John 15, our lives are not lives of active self-achievement, but lives of passively abiding in Christ — and when our being is made whole, the doing naturally bears fruit (Week 1, John 15:5).

When the Word speaks and works in our individual lives, the Logos — the written Word given equally to all — becomes the Rhema, the Word that speaks directly and powerfully into my life right now (Week 2, Acts 20:32).

Through this, the Holy Spirit brings glory to God, causes the Word to live and work, and opens our eyes to see what has been given by grace (Week 3, Romans 8:14).

In that, we walk by faith and not by sight (Week 4, 2 Corinthians 5:7), and because God loved us first, we receive that love and live lives of loving one another within the community (Week 5, 1 John 4:11).

When that relationship is restored, we can walk in the light, look out for one another, and share fellowship that builds others up (Week 6, 1 John 1:7).

We can live as witnesses, always ready to give an answer for the hope within us with gentleness and reverence (Week 7, 1 Peter 3:15), and come to a life of giving cheerfully according to what each has purposed in their heart — not reluctantly or out of compulsion (Week 8, 2 Corinthians 9:7).

In the end, a life of giving is not about money, but about relationships.

Because God loved us first, the very essence of living as a Christian in this world is to give glory to God in every area of life out of gratitude for that love — and we hope this is something we will each carry in our hearts.

This has been a brief summary of the 8-week guidebook for how we are to live as Christians. For those who want to learn more, we highly recommend experiencing Ginosko firsthand.

As we listened to the Ginosko message from Pastor Son, we shared with the brothers and sisters beside us the grace we had received and the decisions we were moved to make.

Just as today's Word in Philippians 4:9 calls us to act, we were grateful to Pastor Son for showing us concretely how to live it out.

In the end, the Christian life is not about achieving something on our own — the essence is to give glory to God within our relationship with Him.

Because God loved us first, we once again engraved on our hearts that we must love one another within the community and live lives of giving joyfully from the heart.

On the way back to the bus, a rainbow appeared in the sky.

On the final day of our pilgrimage, it felt like God's promise to joyfully receive our obedience.

For the first and last time during our pilgrimage, we were given a space to freely and fully worship and sing praise.

"From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised" — we clapped and sang out loudly together in His name.

The confession that we will praise His name from now until eternity filled the final moments of our pilgrimage with worship offered wholly to God.

In groups of five, we completed the phrase "This pilgrimage is ___" and shared our reasons with one another.

Together, we testified of the God who changed us, led us, and brought us to make decisions over these past two weeks.

Above all, we were deeply grateful that He showed us how fellowship within a God-centered community could be this heavenly and this joyful.

Tomorrow morning we head to Rome airport, and are scheduled to arrive at SFO at 8:30 PM on Friday.

May each step we have taken on this journey be remembered in the heart of God, and as we return to our individual lives, may we remember the God who will remember every step of obedience we take.

Sola Scriptura!
Sola Fide!
Sola Gratia!
Solus Christus!
Soli Deo Gloria!
‘For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.’ (Romans 11:36)

Praise the Lord!!!
