God has allowed this season for Agape to not only continue to grow as a body of Christ but to grow more intimately in the Word and the Holy Spirit through the Discipleship course. Coupled with God preparing the Vision Center, I believe the Holy Spirit is stirring up the hearts of our church for revival and deepened time of prayer, and I would have to say this has been the most spirit-filled season I have experienced at NCBC.

But it’s so easy to backslide to the state of my flesh despite this powerful wave of the Spirit, and be apathetic towards the movement of God’s kingdom. I am definitely taking this season for granted by not depending nor deepening the need for Christ as I fall back to the mentality of “I am doing enough”. As difficult as it is to admit, maybe (more than likely) I am heading towards the pathway of lukewarm Christianity, which Jesus said he will spit out from his mouth.

Christ calls me to deny myself and take up my cross to be his disciple. He also says to take upon his yoke and I will find rest for my soul. So am I following Jesus accordingly? On the surface, I may appear to be following Him, but truly, God knows that for the majority of my private time, I am still sitting on the throne of my own heart, and resting in the gratifications of my flesh. Lord, forgive me for my sinful ways…

But, thanks to God, He provided the commitment and accountability from Discipleship, which produced a spiritual routine in keeping up with the assignments, readings, prayers, and memorizing Bible verses. There is a thin line between doing these tasks as obligations versus joyfully doing them to get closer to God. Thankfully, they were not burdensome, and it felt like God was graciously feeding me to enjoy the tasks as my daily bread. Even in my half-hearted ways, I could look back and say God did not spare anything but abundantly provided spiritual blessings, yet it was me who refused God’s outpouring of His love and grace.

So I wonder without these awesome blessings that God has allowed me to participate through Disciple, I would have missed out even more of what God is currently doing in our church.

But God’s grace is enough. As I reflect through the lens of God’s grace of the Discipleship journey, I would like to believe that once I take that small step into God’s daily holy invitation to His heart, then the Holy Spirit awakens my spirit to appreciate every single thing that God prepared for me to enjoy during the past 9 months.

Earlier I did confess I am taking this season of God’s holy wave for granted. However, as God invites me to His holy and gracious presence into memory lane, I am able to recall doing the weekly homework with my son, which helped us to know Jesus more together through the Bible. I do not take this for granted. Another thing I recall the most is our group’s intimate time of praise and prayer when we made sure to begin each session with powerful God-revering worship. I also do not take this for granted. Lastly, God helps me to recall when there were dark moments in my life, God brought brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for the light of Jesus to enter my life and allow God’s mighty hand to break the hardness of my heart. I do not take this for granted as well.

God did it last year in opening up Peitho, Ginosko, and Discipleship for Agape, and I am praying for God’s breakthrough this year for Agape to surrender all for God’s kingdom and not miss out on the wonderful things that only Christ can do.

That was the best testimony I’ve read in awhile! Blessed to see
you coming from such spiritual lens and being able to
discern God’s work in every aspect of His Church and
His people- in your own spiritual walk, in your home and
in your fellowship and discipleship with brothers and sisters
as a group, and over our church as a whole.
In regard to your contemplation of the danger of lukewarm
Christianity- for you, I pray for God to show you the next
steps in your journey of receiving and protecting the
true saving faith that has been granted through His grace
and placing all of your heart’s hope in Jesus. I have no doubt
that His sovereign grace will guide your life in such ways
that will lift you up to overcome the lukewarm path as
“more than a conqueror” and that He will finish His good
work in you. I pray that you will forever abide in the loving
embrace of Jesus, knowing that the battle has already been
won by Him.

Amen.
If our own willpower were strong enough for us to live without falling, I think it would actually become even easier for us to miss the fact that grace is truly grace.
We are still weak and foolish, but through that weakness we come to depend on the Lord more deeply, pray for one another,
and build each other up as we gradually become more like Jesus Christ.
It is both a grace and a blessing that we are able to walk this path together.
